KCWC day 6 and 7....yes....Another pair of Sandbox pants

I have completed my first KCWC.  I have certainly gotten some much needed clothes sewing done for my kids.  I pretty much stuck to dress/church clothes.  I haven't been very impressed with fancier kids clothes recently and am so happy with what I've made!

Today I have yet another pair of Sandbox pants, I was going to use another pattern but the last pair turned out so well, I just took the quick route!  I think it is funny how fabric can really change a pattern.  I would never think these pants were made with this pattern.  The fabric I used was from Hancock's and was a stretch twill with a nice tiny hounds-tooth pattern.  I squeaked by with 1/2 yard and with the sale price these pants cost about $2.50!

He looks like a little man in these pants and I just am thrilled with them.  I think they might be my favorite project of the week!

The shirt is a flashback skinny tee I also made this week.  I like the color and it feels so soft, but I used a ribbed knit that was too thin and so the cuffs are baggy.  I may cut them off and then do a 2" cuff with a different ribbing if they keep bothering me. :)  Those tiny things tend to drive me nuts!!

I am so glad I spent the week sewing for my kids and got most of my list accomplished.  I am planning to do a round up next week of my favorite from the flickr pool!  See you then!

KCWC Day 5...Sandbox pants and shirt

Today I have something for my little man!  I really liked my first try at O+S Sandbox pants I made recently, but knew they needed some tweaking for my picky self! :)   I think my mistake the first time was overall making them too big.  This time I sized them down to make the 6-12 month width wise and the 12-18 month length wise to best fit my skinny boy.  I am much happier with the fit this time!

The pants are corduroy and have a cotton waist band with a flat front.  The pockets are lined with the same fabric.  The shirt is from Growing Up Sew Liberated and is the envelope tee.  I have also made this before.  I tried to fix the neckline so it wasn't quite so large as in my first shirt.  I did improve it some, but I am still not super happy with this pattern.  I love the look of lap style shirts on little ones, but don't like when they seem baggy.  I think I'll go back to Dana's 90 minute shirt if I do this style of shirt again.

The hat is upcycled from an old sweater.  I just measure his head and then winged it from there.  I think it turned out pretty good.  At least it covers his ears!

He is a tough guy to photography right now, I basically just chase him around the yard snapping pictures. :)

One more picture! I love the blue shirt with his blue eyes.  I am looking forward to lots of wear with both these pieces.

This has been an interesting week.  I haven't managed to make as much progress as I thought I could.  I've discovered during this week that while I LOVE sewing, I like to do it when I feel like it, not when I have to! My other realization is that I mostly like to sew at nap time and then relax most evening.  I'll have one most outfit for the little guy to post this week.  Thanks for visiting!

KCWC day 2...Flashback tee and skirt

Another outfit for Peyton today.  I came across the skirt fabric at JoAnn's recently and just knew it would make a cute fall skirt.  I tried out this tutorial over at Make it and Love it.  It was fun to try something new, but I kind wish I'd just made a basic elastic casing for the waistband.  I had to force her to tuck in the shirt and she promptly un-tucked it mid way through taking pictures.  In short it was more time consuming to do it this way, and most likely no one is going to see it.  :(

For the top I was able to use some green knit fabric from my ever growing stash of knits.  I used the Big Kid Flashback skinny tee, this was a size 6.  I love this pattern, easy to sew and very well drafted!  I was pretty sure Peyton was going to think there wasn't enough pink in the outfit for her liking, so I decided to enlarge one of the flowers from the skirt and applique it to the shirt.  I was quite pleased with it.  I would have liked it to be about a half inch higher but that is being really picky! :)

I will add the pink circle for the flower was a bit tricky.  Locally I couldn't find the right shade of pink so I ended up at Old Navy this morning and found a clearance t-shirt that was the right color.  At just over $2 it was a great deal and now I can cut the rest up for upcycled skinny tee!
The tights are from Target like yesterday tights were.  Sparkles are very important to this 4 and half year old.

I hope she wears this outfit, it turned out like I planned, which always makes me happy.  Hoping to have something for Carter tomorrow! :)

KCWC day one....Hopscotch Dress

I am so excited to be participating in Kid's Clothing Week Challenge, as I mostly sew for my kids!  I got most of my fabric cut this weekend, and today during nap time I got this dress done! This was a new dress pattern for me and I think it turned out well. I have sewn O+S patterns before and love them, this was no exception.  Easy directions to follow, and a nice looking garment when completed.

I am not quite as crazy about the fabric once I sewed it up, but Peyton loves it so that is really all that matters.  If you are interest the fabric is by Patty Young from the Sanctuary collection. The tights she has on are from Target, they were just bought a week ago.  They have purple-pink ones too!

Here is a closer look at the top.  Sorry for using the hook my wreath goes on. but it is getting cooler around here and I didn't make it up to the fence I like to use.  :)

Fall is in full swing around here, she LOVES leaves, and has a large leaf collection going again this fall.

But I can't blame her, this is a gorgeous time of year around here.  Now back to my sewing machine!  I'm going to work on some Flashback skinny tees. Thanks for visiting!

Getting Organized for KCWC...Yeah!

This will be my first KCWC.  I have followed along in the flickr pool for the last few but have never joined in.  Seeing as I have my own blog now, I am SO happy to participate!  (This is actually one of the reasons I started this blog, not that you need one to join, I just did!)  For those of you who don't know what KCWC is, I'll give you my version.  KCWC is this awesome week twice a year that tons of Moms get out their sewing machines and dedicate an hour a day to sewing for their kids.  I just love seeing all the great things everyone makes!  Here is the link if you want more info.

I am being pretty ambitious for the week.  I have 2 dresses, 2 pants, 4 shirts, and a 4 piece Ottobre pattern I want to attempt.  This will be my first Ottobre pattern, wish me luck!  I am hoping to have most of the fabric cut this weekend to be ready to sew starting Monday.  I thought I'd share some of my plans.

Long-sleeved O+S Hopscotch Dress with this lovely Patty Young Sanctuary fabric that has been waiting to get off my table for months!

Halloween Dress following this tutorial from Make it and Love it.  I am pretty excited about this one!  Not looking forward to sewing that doily (spiderweb) onto the shirt though! :)

A fall outfit that came about from a trip to JoAnn's this week.  I fell in love with this flower fabric and HAD to buy some!  I did make the skirt yesterday following another Make it and love it tutorial.  I'll talk more about it when I post the whole outfit.  For the shirt I am using the Flashback Skinny Tee pattern and going to try out Rae's puff sleeve tutorial. I am thinking about doing a big version of that fun flower on the top of the shirt, we'll see.
And finally another pair of O+S Sandbox pants.  This time with corduroy.  I am going to fix the sizing issues I had with the first pair.

I'm excited to get some fabric washed and cut this weekend.  Happy planning everyone!  I totally LOVE sewing for my kids!
Thanks for visiting.

I Love Green!

Like many preschools, Peyton's reviews the colors at the start of the year.  They celebrate the colors by wearing different colors each day.  We've had a lot of good outfits for most days, but not much for green.  Rather than being normal, and just running to the store for something green, I decided to sew something.  After looking through my fabric I found a fabulous fabric just waiting for "green day".  The fabric is by Valori Wells in a past collection called Wrenly.

I then decided to make another O+S Ice Cream dress, as I really liked the first one I made.  I knew it would need another pop of color besides all the green, and decided on yellow.  I thought about using it on the yoke but didn't think I would like that.  I ended up making a band of yellow at the bottom.  To do that I used the full length of the dress pattern in her size and then subtracted 4" from the dress to add the band.  I really like it!  Everything worked out like I envisioned!

I left off the pockets just to keep the dress more basic.  I'm usually drawn to basic and clean clothes, and tend to simplify a lot of patterns.  I did include them on my first Ice Cress Dress, and I considered putting them on this one in yellow for a moment, but I'm glad I left them out.

I will say with this bold chrysanthemum print I do sort of see a muu muu house dress trying to escape, but I'm okay with that! :)  Comfort is very important in her wardrobe.

However, I am having trouble getting her to wear this now that "green day" is over.  She always complains that her hair gets caught in the button on the back.  Does anyone have any suggestions for how to avoid that?  I have tried braiding her hair on days she wears this style of dress but she can still get some hair caught.  It really drives her crazy! :)

We are going to enjoy these next few days around here.  It is suppose to get very cool by next weekend. And while I am ready for some brisk fall weather; I always know that means winter is coming and I would rather it stayed away.  I like green grass too much!  Green is my favorite color!
